CNS Support |
| |
| The Center for Nanoscale Systems, in addition to managing and operating world-class shared scientific facilities, provides support to the Harvard nanoscale research community in various forms. CNS has a seed money program and a visiting scientist program. CNS also acquires equipment to facilitate faculty research, provides seminar/workshop support, and cost-sharing on sponsored proposals. Any support request will be considered so long as it falls within the missions and goals of the Center.
Below are the steps to apply for CNS support:

Please make only one request per form. If you have multiple requests, please submit a separate set of forms for each.
Please note that the availability of funding is not guaranteed for support requests and the CNS Directors Group including the Technical Director will determine whether to support requests based on relatedness to CNS and the availability of funding.
Since support requests generally need to be budgeted for, there are deadlines in order for your request to be able to be considered a “regular request.” For seed money, visiting scientist and equipment acquisition requests, CNS must have your completed request by January 31st for it to be included in the next fiscal year’s budget (start date of project/visit/purchase would have to be later than July 1st).
Seminar/workshop and cost-sharing requests must be made at least 60 days before the deadline or event date in order to be considered a “regular request.” However, large cost-sharing requests would be subject to the January 31st deadline, if large enough to require special budgeting.
It is recommended that you contact CNS management prior to submitting a request that would fall into the “other” category.
CNS will accept requests outside the deadlines, however, it decreases the chances that funding will exist. These will be considered a “special request.”
Each request category has particular policies regarding use of support funds. Information regarding request category specific policies is located on the corresponding CNS Support Request Detail Form.
Below are the general policies regarding all CNS support requests. |
| |
GENERAL POLICIES REGARDING ALL CNS SUPPORT REQUESTS
All requests must conform to all CNS, FAS, and Harvard University policies.
CNS Directors Group may negotiate the terms and conditions regarding a support request before or after approval.
CNS management should be notified and approve of any significant changes to the project/request prior to their taking place.
Willful disregard of the policies regarding CNS support funding can result in forfeiture of support.
Decisions on requests will be made by the CNS Directors Group including the Technical Director.
All funds must be spent in the budget period for which they are approved (if applicable.)
All expenses must go through, or be coordinated with the CNS Administrative Office. |
